“The Nativity of Saint Nicholas”

Николай Чудотворец

Today, on August 11, we celebrate the Nativity of Saint Nicholas – one of the most revered Saints in Russia.

The author’s bronze sculpture of the Saint is a deep metaphorical image that reflects the national and cultural traditions of Baikal Asia. Nicholas the Wonderworker appears as an Eastern elder, clinging to the shell, listening to the sound of the sea. The folds of the garment, like a water element, envelop the figure in a stream. The ancient wooden part of the gate at the sculpture’s base is a symbol of the transition to an unknown sacred space and the Saint is a wise ambassador of this world.
