One of the symbols of modern Netherlands is a bicycle as a way of life.
There is a silence in the awakening city, occasionally disturbed by sharp calls of bicycles. The Dutch hurry along the endless series of “gingerbread houses” facades, the narrow embankment of river canals with the intricate bridges. Brand new, tattered by the time or fantastically decorated bicycles – all of them are an integral part of their daily lives.
Author’s bronze sculpture “Cyclist” is a metaphor of the Dutch routine. He easily and naturally rides in a saddle. A symbolic plasticity resembles a reflection-shadow in the trembling water of the channels.
