Red elephant

Material: jasper

Height: 140 mm

The stately and strong animal, respected in Asia and Africa, which symbolsizes wisdom and dignity, might and prudence, insight and patience, receives an almost abstract interpretation in a new work of stone-carving by Sergey Falkin.

In his composition the author finds out a plastic sculptural formula for the elephant. With the help of lines and surfaces Sergey Falkin expresses the massiveness and monumentality typical for the elephant, and at the same time escapes from the common perception conventions. The author finds the plasticity of generalization, reveals the geometric basis of the image and organizes it into a new, almost cubic, form. The deep, rich color of jasper with hematite veins, which at a certain angle have a metallic glow, further emphasizes the majesty and power of the animal, according to the author’s idea.
